The Julia Stoschek Collection (JSC) is one of the world’s most important and comprehensive private collections of time-based art, dedicated to the public presentation, advancement, conservation, and scholarship of media and performance practices. JSC commissioned Studio von Monkiewitsch and Studio Michael Pichler to develop a new website featuring an open digital archive as an online research tool for the public. The visionary collection and its well-considered structure was our focal point for the website’s concept; a primarily type based interface that delivers important information in a clearly structured manner. In contrast, the images of the artworks are presented to stand-alone, speaking for themselves. They open in a separate layer beneath the text that evokes a dark stage or black box projection situation in which video art is typically shown.
